SPAW volunteers are unique individuals who share a compassion for animals, a desire to help people in communities who have limited or no access to veterinary care, and who enjoy the concept of “giving back” and “volunteerism”.
SPAW volunteers find the volunteer experience satisfying, eye opening and rewarding.
Hear what some of our volunteers say about their experience with SPAW working in the South Pacific:
“A fabulous way to add to 20 years of vet nursing. A wonderful experience, and I’m going back for more.” Jan Gill, New Zealand
“Amazing experience, fantastic place, interesting cases, It’s on my wish list to go again.” Leanne Nola, New Zealand
“Throughout the week the antibiotics flowed, the scalpels whirred, the suture packets emptied and groggy pets were safely shipped back home. Somehow we managed to fit in swims, snorkels, a dive or two, team dinners and a huge party with our hosts. What an adventure – a unique experience. Feels great.” Dr. Alex Melrose, New Zealand
“I have been on three SPAW trips now so can be pretty honest about the experience. If you enjoy routine surgery, travelling to beautiful pacific islands and meeting like-minded people then a volunteer trip may well foot the bill for you. You wont be lying by a swimming pool all day but you will get involved with friendly locals and their community. You will have some time for R&R and you will need it. It is hard work, but it is extremely rewarding. I will do it again as often as I can.” Dr Alex Elson, United Kingdom
